Well, things are getting real!
For about 6 months now we have been preparing for this move to Orlando and it’s closing in on us. We have sold our house and bought one in Orlando. We have reserved a moving truck to arrive in early June, and when it drives away on June 8th, so do we! There are lot of joys and pain in this move and we’re feeling all of it at once!
One unexpected joy in this move is that we have purchased a house that is only two doors down from our long-time friends Brian and Erin Clark. Brian has been my best friend since we started working with Cru together almost 20 years ago and Dawn and Erin used to be roommates. It will be a crazy adventure raising our 5 boys and 2 girls together. Pray for us!
For those of you who don’t quite understand exactly what we will be doing in our new roles, I put a little video together for you and posted it online. CLICK HERE to watch and get a feel for what we will be doing.
As we make decisions about what to bring with us, sell things online, complete paperwork, raise support, and wrap up the school year, we have stepped back a good bit from field ministry at the high school. We have asked the staff team there to go ahead and function as if we weren’t here so we can focus our attention on the transition. It is difficult to take my hands off the wheel, and to pull back from some of the relationships there, but the team is doing a great job and I am confident that very good things are to come for Cru in the Fishers area. Praise God with us for answering one of the biggest prayers we were praying as we took this step – that he would provide the manpower to continue the ministry well in the Fishers area. Thank you God!
Can I ask you to pray for an area that is weighing on my heart? This move will be expensive for us and we are needing to raise a good bit of additional support. We already were behind about $1,000 a month just to live in Fishers and the cost of living increase for Orlando is another $1,500 on top of that. So we need to raise a total of $2,500 more in monthly support and we have nearly raised $500 of that. Some of our local supporters are also dropping off which is making that number even larger.
Please pray that God would raise that support up quickly and that we would trust in our God to provide for us. It is tempting to trust in the people that we ask – thinking that they hold the key to our contentment (if only they would give). But our hope is in Christ alone. God is our provider, not these men and women. Help us to ask boldly and often and pray that God would provide above and beyond our needs!
ON THE HOMEFRONT
Saying goodbye can be hard. Our kids are doing great and have such a great attitude, but please pray for their hearts as they say goodbye to the great friends God has given them here in Fishers. We will miss them greatly but we know that God will provide great friends in Orlando too. For some of our kids, this will be harder for others, and it’s going to be hard for me and Dawn, too, as God has given us some great people to love here!
